Principles of Exercise Training
People exercise for a variety of reasons — from weight management to improved levels of strength for sports. If you want to improve any aspect of your physical performance, you need to adhere to the exercise principles. These principles can be thought of as signposts to success.

1. Principle of Overload. It states that the body must work harder than what is used in order to adapt.

2. Principle of Progression. It states that the body should experience a gradual increase in workload.

3. Principle of Specificity. It states that the body will adapt specifically to the workload it experienced. It implies that improvements in the fitness level will be limited to the activities that one is performing.

4. Principle of Individuality. It states that no two person are the same and their rate of adaptation to the same workload differs.

5. Principle of reversibility. It states that when the individual stops at exercise, the body gradually returns returns to its initial level of fitness.
